Martin Coogan,
The Mock Turtles - 96.2 The Revolution FM
My name is Martin Coogan former frontman with The Mock
Turtles and latterly producer and DJ.
I've known Tony for many years and I've had the pleasure
to work with him on a number of projects.
I can honestly say he's got to be one of the best drummers
in the country and consequently one of the most sought after.
He's what I'd describe as a 'drummer's drummer'. Floppy
and loose, tons of feel with delicate grace notes all over
the place yet solid as a rock and bang on the money.
His experience as a drummer, both as a member of several
eastablished and well known bands and as a sessionist, has
led to him getting a reputation for his versatiility as
well as virtuosity.
But best of all, he's a top bloke; lively, intelligent,
sensitive and VERY funny, in short; if you had to pick a
drummer to be holed up with in a tour bus for 6 months or
in a studio without seeing daylight for weeks on end - Tony's
your man, because he's well loved and an all round dude!

Tony Thompson is probably the most amazing drummer I’ve
ever worked with. Certainly the most versatile. We recorded
2 albums together as The Clint Boon Experience. Tony’s
contribution was priceless. He does things on a drum kit
that I’ve not seen other drummers do.
Over the space of 3 years, we had great times on the road
supporting the likes of Shed 7 and Travis, as well as headlining
our own tours. The highlights of our time together are probably
supporting Bryan Adams in Hyde Park, playing Reading and
Leeds festivals in 1999 and performing our hit single ‘White
No Sugar’ on TFI Friday the same year.
Tony’s passion for playing is unbeatable, it’s
an often used cliché but in Tony’s case he
really does ‘live and breath’ drums and rhythm.
Every minute he gets.
Tony is also a truly devoted dad and hubby. All in all…one
top geyser. It was a pleasure working with him and it will
be a pleasure to work with him again.
